99 and Feeling Better Each Day!

Reva Gornbein Finds the Secret to Independence

Hi,  I am Reva Gornbein.  I did one of the first video interviews for Gracefully Greying when I was 97.  I am 99 now, and will be turning 100 on September 10th.  I spent most of my life in the Detroit, Michigan area, but moved to Wilmington, North Carolina to be closer to my son and his family. I currently live in in an independent living high-rise only a few miles from them - I choose to remain independent.

Recently I have been feeling poorly.  I have been in hospice and have been on oxygen.  I spend almost every day going to different doctors.  Each one has a different opinion, and it has been very frustrating.  I have been losing a lot of weight and have had no appetite.  I have been on many different medications and have been feeling like I am in a fog.  I have always prided myself on taking care of my self, being physically fit and mentally sharp.  I still play bridge, and until December I was still driving.

A few days ago I started taking medical marijuana products - CBD oils.  I have cut down on many of my other medications.  I have more of an appetite and am starting to gain back some of my weight loss.  I feel good and mentally sharp again.  I don't know if it is the marijuana for sure, but something is clearly making a difference.  I look forward to turning 100 and voting in the upcoming presidential election, as I have some strong political opinions.

My advice to those of us who are getting older is to live each day fully, exercise, drink a lot of liquids and keep in close contact with family and friends.  My family are now communicating by zoom and this has been great!
